Saving a Monkey

the children at this village were entralled by the monkey in the back of the vehicle!

this little guy will be much happier in his new home

On a recent trip down to Accra with fellow volunteers Anthony and Laura, we made a slight detour to a monkey sanctuary near Cape Coast in order to drop off a monkey that they had been looking after for a few months.

Anthony was sad to see monkey go, but knows that this is a better home for him

The sanctuary was actually a wonderful place for all animals;  run by an eccentric Dutch couple, they have spent the last seven years looking after animals that otherwise would be killed.

Where possible, they do release the animals back into the wild, which is beautiful.  But for some of these creatures, who have either been abandoned, injured or orphaned, they have no choice but to keep them, as they would not be able to fend for themselves in the wild.
