Graphic Signs

leave a comment »

In a previous post (“A Sign of the Ghanaian Times“), we blogged about signs here that often have a strong religious overtone.  Not always;  Mark noticed a sign heading back from Accra that advertised “Fire and Blood:  Barber and Brass Band”.  Something for everyone!

We also mentioned that often shops need to both describe (in words) what their shop sells, as well as in pictures.  This is because many people are illiterate;  so the photos help everyone know exactly what is being offered for sale, etc…

One of the best signs we’ve seen so far was spied recently in Accra.  This is for a local “doctor or herbalist” who clearly treats all sorts of ailments.  Graphic pictures – yes.  But we particularly like the one for “bullet power”.

This sign makes crystal clear what ailments can be treated at this "herbal centre"!
