Scrabble Update

with 2 comments

As promised, it’s finally time for an update on the great Ghana scrabble championship. First a look at the voting: Mar 9, Mark 8.

Many will be surprised that Mark has fared so well in the voting stakes; however a few points need to be made:

  • Rather than suffer the ignominy of having no votes at all he kick started the process by voting for himself.
  • The majority of his votes have come from family members who either feel a misguided allegiance or (perhaps as a result of prior knowledge?) suggest he is a better cheat!

No doubt the great majority of you will be further surprised (perhaps even astounded) to learn that Mark (yes Mark) currently holds a commanding, though certainly not comfortable, lead. With four rounds played (remember a round consists of being first to win at least 21 games by a margin of 2 or more) he is ahead 3 to 1! It must be stated that Mar has been shocked into action and is currently leading the 5th round 18 to 15. Watch this space….

And now to the statistics:

  • Cumulative number of games played – 190
  • Total number of rounds played – 4
  • Greatest margin in a game – Mark: 167
  • Highest overall score in a game – Mar: 406
  • Lowest scoring game: Mark 252 defeated Mar 241
  • Highest scoring game: Mar 406 defeated Mark 297
  • Highest score from an individual word – Mar: 105 (quinine)
  • 7+ letter words used include: intruder, lootings, demurred, dossier, equation (scored 104!), drained, bloating, beatings, reposted, striped, reclose.

  1. I had a classmate at uni by the name of Alexandra Zofia Skzuta. “Alexandra Skzuta” fits nicely across the top of the scrabble board and sice it spans across three triple word scores and some doubles as well, it should give a high score.
