A Dabble in Scrabble….

with 3 comments

There aren’t a whole lot of entertainment choices available to The Shox here in Tamale….. in Perth, we would catch live music gigs regularly at the Ellington, enjoy outdoor cinema at the Somerville, catch art house flicks at the Luna and walk into Leederville for a coffee. The etymologically inclined will be pleased to know that our nightly form of entertainment is none other than the humble game of Scrabble!

We are going to be posting a separate page (which will be found on the RHS of this blog) which will have all the relevant statistics of our ongoing competition. We’ll include things like:

  • · 7+ letter words used

Mark indulging in a spot of Scrabble in Dogon Country, Mali

  • · Cumulative number of games played
  • · Total number of rounds played
  • · Greatest margin in a game
  • · Highest overall score in a game

A few rules that we are following….. rather than having a massive number of games accumulating, we thought we would play in “table tennis “ fashion, with the first person winning 21 games (by at least a margin of two) taking the “round”…. and we will be tracking progress on total rounds played. We are now into our fourth round and have played over 130 games since arrival in Tamale in October 2009.

To keep things interesting, we thought we’d kick-start the process by conducting a poll on who YOU, our faithful readers, think will be the overall winner of the Great Ghanaian Scrabble Tournament. So get your votes in now! Take our poll and let us know who you think will hold the enviable title of Scrabble Master…. Or is that Scrabble Marster???

  1. You may have invented either a new game or a new sport here.

On the way to caught up with Fui at Melbourne Central this afternoon, we bumped into Bob Motta along Elizabeth St. I will forward Fui you blogsite so he can read for himself of your adventure and join in the poll. He was amused of the stories we told him of your Ghanian adventure.

  2. Hi guys, I suggest Mar will win the scrabble as I’ve never known Mark to have that competitive edge…

The family & I are off to Exmouth next Friday – the hottest place in Australia at the moment … but I’m sure the water will cool us off…

    Regards, Keith
